Wascana Centre - A Place For You!
There is something for everyone in Wascana Centre:
history, nature, environment, culture, people, animals, fun, serenity and more.
Wascana Centre’s trees are a beauty to look at and a treasure to us all, but they can become a safety hazard if they grow too close to overhead power lines. When incidents happen, not only are they dangerous, but they cost time and money to repair.
Over the next three years, Wascana Centre Authority and SaskPower will be working together to create a tree-free corridor along power lines in the park using integrated vegetation management techniques. This will address current safety issues, plus provide a cost-effective preventative solution that will last into the future.
Trees in six different areas of Wascana Centre will be pruned, removed, or transplanted to create a right of way for power lines. New, shorter-growing trees will replace taller varieties, and hazardous vegetation will be treated accordingly. Ecologically sensitive areas of the park, including those involved in scientific research, will be treated with the highest regard.
Work in 2013 is scheduled to begin May 22 and be completed by June 30, weather permitting.

Urban Wildlife
There have been coyote sightings in Wascana Centre this winter. They are a natural part of our environment. If you encounter a coyote in the Centre here are some tips to discourage any human-coyote conflicts: - Intimidate the animal: Do not run. Shout in a deep voice, wave your arms, clap your hands, and make yourself look big while maintaining eye contact.
- Never feed a coyote either in person or by leaving food for it - this will lead to the animal losing its fear of humans and create potential problems in the future.
